About
WISDOM, World Vision’s Ethiopia microfinance affiliate, was established in Addis Ababa in 1998 and currently operates 15 branches throughout the country.  USAID’s Microenterprise Development office began supporting WISDOM in October 2001 through its Implementation Grant Program (IGP).  The funding helped WISDOM to expand into secondary towns, reach more clients, and grow faster than it could have on its own.  WISDOM staff also received training.  Set to graduate from the IGP in September 2005, WISDOM has made remarkable strides, nearly tripling in size since 2000, and helping Ethiopia’s poverty-stricken citizens—especially women—to engage in income-generating activities and thereby stimulate local level development
