Soil and Water Conservation / Agricultural Engineering Specialist:
21 months over three years
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Federal Government of Ethiopia implements a Sustainable Land Management Programme in 6 Regions. The programme adopts a watershed management approach and 23 Woredas in Amhara, Oromia and Tigray, are funded by German Development Cooperation through KfW, the German Development Bank. GITEC-Consult and AMBERO-Consulting of Germany, in association with MELCA-Ethiopia provide consultancy services. A Soil and Water Conservation / Agricultural Engineering Specialist is required to assist the KfW funded programme in Oromia Region. The Specialist will work for 21 months over a three year period (7 months a year) and will be based at the Bureau of Agriculture (BOA) in Sarbet, Addis Ababa. The position is currently vacant and the successful applicant will be required to start work as soon as possible.
The Specialist will work closely with the BoA, Woreda Officials and communities to support technical aspects of training and the detailed planning, design, specification, and oversight of physical watershed development and management measures. The Specialist will be expected to travel extensively, spending up to 50% of his/her working time at project locations in Oromia Region.
The successful applicant will have an M.Sc degree in Agricultural Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation, Natural Resources Management, Watershed Development or similar. S/he will have a minimum of 8 years professional experience and will have worked in similar projects and programmes. Experience of working with internationally funded projects and programmes is required.
